About This Project

  • Cosplay, a portmanteau of the words costume play, is a performance art in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character. In this project titled Cosplay (コスプレ kosupure), it is a book based on an interpretation of the writings of Walter Benjamin’s work, “Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction.” The book is broken up into three sections: production, practice, and recreation.
  • Design objectives included creating a book form using Benjamin’s text from “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction.” (1936). Manage text, images, and illustrations by creating a grid system for the separate pages of each book form.
